Family Support Specialist

Department: Blake Behavioral Health
Location: Tucson, AZ

General Position Description:  The Family Support Specialist (FSS) will provide behavior management, parenting guidance and support services to children birth through 18 years old and their families or caregivers in-home and in the community. The FSS also coordinates communication between the member and other providers or community agencies to ensure coordination of care.  The FSS will be under the direct supervision of the BI Clinical Supervisor.

Essential Duties & Functions (With or Without Accommodation):

  • In conjunction with clinical staff implements components of the childís Individualized Service Plan with consideration for the familyís unique needs, strengths and goals.
  • Implements behavior management interventions, caregiver guidance and support services based on the specific needs of the child and family.
  • Encourages and models appropriate early childhood practices, parenting skills and behavior management/modification techniques.
  • May assist in developmental monitoring and referring for appropriate services if indicated
  • Assists members in securing necessary behavioral health services from EBF or other appropriate providers.
  • When indicated in member's service plan will provide support services that include: case management, personal assistance, family support, peer support, respite care, and transportation services to enrolled members.
  • May provide individual, family, and/or group counseling based on needs as determined by the Clinical Director and EBF policies.
  • Performs crisis intervention and solution-focused interventions.
  • May conduct updates on annual assessments, and develop treatment plans as determined by the Clinical Director and EBF policies.
  • Maintains member records in accordance with agency and funding source requirements.
  • Provides complete documentation and reporting of member behavioral health services in accordance with agency and funding requirement.
  • Attends and participates in all professional meetings and clinical staffing.
  • Participates in ongoing program planning and development.
  • Ensures services are provided in a culturally competent manner.
  • Adheres to all EBF policies, procedures and protocols in addition to State/RHBA regulations.
  • Will maintain EBF productivity, timelines and quality standards set forth by EBF.
  • May facilitate or participate in individual or group skills training as determined by the clinical director.
  •  Any other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Skills (with or without accommodation):

  • Understanding of family systems, child development and experience providing behavior management.
  • Strong Clinical knowledge.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with well-developed problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, project management and multitasking skills.
  • Skill in using business software such as email, MS Office, smart phones, office equipment and electronic health records.
  • Flexibility and ability to respond to changing priorities.
  • Must be reliable and punctual.
  • Displays cultural sensitivity and demonstrates the ability to form constructive and collaborative working relationships with others from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate in a culturally inclusive manner and being open to other peopleís differences.

 

Other requirements:

  • Must be able to utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as face mask, gown, goggles and gloves, for any amount of time necessary to provide a physical barrier to protect the employee and others.
  • Must be able to walk, run, climb, stoop, kneel, sit, stand, reach, stretch, bend, squat.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend stairs.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to remain calm, non-defensive with a supportive attitude during stressful, potential crisis, and crisis situations.
  • Must be able to work in an extremely stressful environment where there are considerable mental and emotional demands. The types of situations that may be encountered, particularly when children and adults are involved, cause emotional stress.
  • Must be able to manage high volumes and unpredictability of work.
  • Must be able to remain flexible and reprioritize according to the changing demands of the day.
  • Must be able to manage stress in a fast - paced, unpredictable, and high intensity setting.
  • Must be able to represent EBF in a professional manner in all situations.
  • Must be able to maintain professional relationships with colleagues.
  • Must be in compliance with all EBF and regulatory requirements.

 

Minimum Educational and Certification Requirements:

  • Masterís degree in a behavioral health related field; or Bachelorís degree in behavioral health related field and two years behavioral health work experience; or Masterís degree in non-behavioral health related field and 30 semester hours in behavioral health education and four years behavioral health work experience; or Bachelorís degree in a non-behavioral health related field and 30 semester hours in behavioral health education and four years behavioral health work experience; or Associateís degree in behavioral health related field and four years

behavioral health work experience; or Associateís degree in non-behavioral health related field and 30 semester hours in behavioral health education and five years behavioral health work experience; or is licensed as a practical nurse, according to A.R.S. Title 32, Chapter 15, with at least two years of full-time behavioral health work experience.

  • Extensive knowledge of managed care systems, AHCCCS/Title XIX medical assistance screening, and RBHA/DBHS policies and practices.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and able to obtain a Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Valid Arizona driverís license and the willingness to use personal vehicle in the course of employment.  Must meet minimum requirements of agency insurance carrier.
  • Must be able to meet training and agency compliance requirements for the position.
  • Spanish speaking preferred.
