Early Childhood Teacher (AJ)

Department: Blake Children & Family
Location: Apache Junction, AZ


Plans and implements developmentally appropriate curriculum in a classroom setting for toddlers or preschool-aged children. Builds solid communication to establish partnership relationships with family members to better meet the needs of the child. Maintains current and timely documentation of work in compliance with Center and other regulatory agenciesí standards. Supervises and guides teaching assistants, substitutes and volunteers assigned in the room. Supervises the Program in the absence of the Director and Assistant Director.


  • Complete the Easter Seals Blake Foundation & Centerís new employee requirements for employment: orientation and training requirements, reporting suspected child abuse, and health requirements as specified by the Office of Child Care Licensure.
  • Design and maintain a home-like classroom environment to enhance culturally sensitive learning based on the developmental needs of the children.
  • Develop curriculum considering the age and experience of the children, reflecting all areas of development including physical, emotional, social, language and cognitive skills.
  • Adapt the curriculum and instruction to meet the needs of the individual childís strengths, needs and interests.
  • Implement the Individual Family Service Plan or Individual Educational Plan for children with special needs.
  • Use a variety of teaching strategies to encourage learning, following the individual childís lead and preferred modality for learning.
  • Facilitate each childís curiosity and enthusiasm for learning by engaging in collaborative inquiry with them.
  • Foster interaction and cooperation among the children. Encourage children to lead their own small† †† †group activities.
  • Facilitate a sense of responsibility and self-regulation in children, intervening as needed to guide children in settling disputes or differences.
  • Adopt and follow quality standards and practices required or recommended by Head Start and Early Head Start (HS/EHS), National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), DHS Office of Child Care Licensing (OCCL) and the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
  • Establish partnerships with parents and families and through regular, solid communication work together in order to achieve shared goals for children.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director, colleagues and community organizations in best serving the† †† †childís needs.
  • Provide instruction, mentorship and supervision for teaching assistants.
  • Facilitate reflective supervision with teaching assistants, reporting training needs to Director.
  • Evaluate the performance of teaching assistants, volunteers and others working in your room. Provide feedback at least annually with the support of the Director.
  • Share information with colleagues which facilitates continuity of care throughout the childís day.
  • Lead the teaching team to implement program curriculum, following policies, procedures and practices that result in positive outcomes for children and families.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities by enrolling in higher education programs, conferences and trainings.
  • Attend planning, informational and quality assurance meetings.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality concerning children and families.
  • Maintain required documentation and reporting on each child related to health, behavior, family partnership and development.
  • Complete and review meal count forms, infant production forms and infant preference forms on time for CACFP requirements.†
  • Complete annual continuing educational requirements as specified by Office of Child Care Licensure, CACFP, and Child Parent Centers.


  • Knowledge of typical and atypical child development.
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate care and best educational practices supported by research and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to cultural and linguistic diversity.
  • Knowledge of methods to include children with differing levels of developmental abilities.
  • Ability to be self-directed when necessary and flexible when needs of the children change.
  • Ability to use principles of reflective practice with children, families and colleagues.
  • Ability to develop reciprocal, mutually respectful relationships with children, family members and colleagues.
  • Ability to work as a collaborative member of a team.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Ability to use technology as a tool for record-keeping, documentation and investigation.


Preschool Classrooms (3-5 yr. olds)

  • Minimum Associate degree in ECE or
  • Bachelorís degree in ECE†or
  • Associate or Bachelorís degree in other field with 24 units of coursework equivalent to a major in Early Childhood Education
  • Consideration may be given to applicants with other degrees.

Toddler Classrooms (1-3 yr. olds)

  • Minimum Infant/Toddler CDA
  • Associate or Bachelorís degree in Early Childhood Education or
  • Associate or Bachelorís degree in related field with demonstrated coursework in early childhood development with a focus on infant/toddler development (i.e.: completion of Program for Infant/Toddler Care (PITC) modules).
  • Associate or Bachelorís degree in other field with demonstrated coursework in early childhood development, preferably infant/toddler development, that meets CDA coursework requirements.
  • Consideration may be given to applicants with other degrees.


  • Qualified employees who are interested in applying must first notify their current Supervisor of their intent to apply for another job opening within ESBF for informational purposes
  • Qualified employees must have held their current position with ESBF for a least twelve (12) consecutive months and, have a satisfactory performance record and have no disciplinary actions during the last twelve (12) consecutive months
  • Must submit a valid Fingerprint Clearance Card on hire OR pass a Criminal History Background Check prior to beginning employment and submit an active Fingerprint Clearance Card after hire.
  • Maintain a current valid driverís license, proof of insurance, and a driving record that meets ESBF requirements
  • Have a minimum of 6 months documented experience working in a paid or volunteer position in an early childhood setting†and
  • Obtain and pass a funder required physical exam and have a TB skin test prior to beginning employment†and
  • Successfully complete pediatric CPR and First Aid within 6 weeks of hire.
