Group Facilitator (AVIVA)

Department: AVIVA Children's Services
Location: Tucson, AZ

General Position Description: Group Facilitator will facilitate structured group therapy services and interventions, skills training, crisis intervention, for children ages six to seventeen. The position is full time and has a flexible schedule to accommodate hours for members such as after school, school breaks (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer, etc.) and weekend hours. The Group Facilitator should possess the understanding of age appropriate behavioral interventions, child development, and direct experience working with children with trauma backgrounds.

Essential Duties & Functions (With or Without Accommodation):

  • Screen, evaluate, schedule, support, and continually evaluate referred members in need of behavioral health services
  • Facilitate school age, pre-teen and teen groups using evidenced-based curriculum for social skills, and socio-emotional development
  • Engage caregivers/children in defining issues, creating goals and identifying strengths to meet their clinical needs and objectives
  • Provides direct care and supervision of clients in group setting.
  • Provides meaningful teaching opportunities, experiences, and physical assistance for groups or individuals that include: social skills, self-care, and recreational activities
  • Implement behavior intervention and therapy curriculum when applicable
  • Assists in the development of activity plans and preparation for each group/session
  • Transports clients to and from community outings and other activities.
  • Focuses on the safety and well-being of the child(ren) and families in all aspects of work.
  • Develops a culturally sensitive rapport and professional relationship with families and community partners.
  • Attends and/or makes reports to the Child and Family Team (CFT) during CFT meetings.
  • Collaborates and meets with other service providers and internal team members to coordinate services.
  • Ensures that paperwork is completed correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Attend and participate in all required staff meetings as necessary.
  • Promote and follow practices that support the health/safety of staff and members.
  • Must work scheduled hours, be punctual, keep appointments, and use time effectively in order to meet productivity.
  • Utilize supervision effectively, accept feedback in a professional manner, and accept responsibility for job performance.
  • Attend required professional development opportunities and maintain knowledge of current research as well as effective approaches.
  • Understand and maintain sensitive information within the confines of need-to-know parameters following HIPPA guidelines.
  • Maintain professionalism with staff, outside agencies and members at all times; represent EBF in a professional manner.
  • Perform simple administrative tasks.
  • Any other tasks as assigned.


Knowledge and Skills (with or without accommodation):

  • Meet the behavioral health requirements of a Behavioral Health Para Professional (BHPP) or Behavioral Health Technician (BHT).
  • Experience working with children and families required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to speak and write effectively in English.
  • Knowledge of general child development and behavior intervention.
  • Be extremely alert and safety conscious.
  • Ability to work in multiple settings
  • Ability to complete job responsibilities autonomously without daily oversight.
  • Ability to use the following office equipment: computer, telephone, copy machine, fax machine.


Other requirements:

  • Must be able to utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as face mask, gown, googles and gloves, for any amount of time necessary to provide a physical barrier to protect the employee and others.
  • Must be able to walk, run, climb, stoop, kneel, sit, stand, reach, stretch, bend, squat.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend stairs.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Pass a basic swim test.
  • Must be able to remain calm, non-defensive with a supportive attitude during stressful, potential crisis, and crisis situations.
  • Must be able to work in an extremely stressful environment where there are considerable mental and emotional demands. The types of situations that may be encountered, particularly when children and adults are involved, cause emotional stress.
  • Must be able to manage high volumes and unpredictability of work.
  • Must be able to remain flexible and reprioritize according to the changing demands of the day.
  • Must be able to manage stress in a fast - paced, unpredictable, and high intensity setting.
  • Must be able to represent EBF in a professional manner in all situations.
  • Must be able to maintain professional relationships with colleagues.
  • Must be in compliance with all EBF and regulatory requirements.
  • Must be able to adapt to diverse cultural environments and communicate in a culturally inclusive manner.

Minimum Educational and Certification Requirements:

  • Bachelorís Degree in Social Work or related field and 1-year behavior management experience.
  • Current CPR or First Aid Certification.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and able to obtain a Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Provide and maintain a valid Arizona driverís license, current registration and insurance. Must meet minimum requirements of agency insurance carrier.
  • Must be able to meet training and agency compliance requirements for the position.
  • Spanish speaking preferred.
