Direct Support Professional/Job Coach (Safford)

Location: Safford, AZ

We are offering a one-time sign on bonus for full time ($300) and part time ($150) positions after providing 90 days of dependable and consistent services!

General Position Description:

This position is working with members with a variety of disabilities who are contracted with the Arizona State Department of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) and/or the Arizona State Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) for employment supports.  This position carries out the services as specified in each Individual Support Plan, assisting members to obtain and/or maintain employment that is consistent with their vocational goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide assistance and guidance to members who need help with their everyday work activities.
  • Assist members to learn and accurately carry out job duties.
  • Provide on-the-job training tailored to the needs of the member and support them to adjust to their chosen work environment.
  • Discover memberís motivation and help develop their skills.
  • Present and teach job searching skills and techniques.
  • Counsel members on fine-tuning work habits/skills in preparation for competitive employment.
  • Keep track, oversee and document progress.
  • Recognize opportunities to fade support when applicable.
  • Provide input into job development and additional/alternative job duties.
  • Keep membersí files up to date per requirements of funding source.
  • Keep daily attendance and payroll records as required by funding source.
  • Document all professional, employer and family contacts.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with employers, industry organizations and public agencies when sourcing job openings and securing employment and/or career exploration vocational opportunities for members.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experienced in helping people enhance their strengths and improve their working skills.
  • Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Problem-solving aptitude.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practice of "supported employment."
  • Knowledge of DDD/VR systems.
  • Knowledge of the individual planning process, strategies for teaching job tasks and methods of monitoring progress.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of policies and procedures.
  • Complete all assigned duties and paperwork accurately
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.
  • Conform to policies and procedures of Easterseals Blake Foundation.

Other general requirements:

  • Meet the minimum combination of education and experience required by the funding source.
  • High school or GED preferred. 
  • If position requires driving an EBF vehicle, must possess a current/valid Arizona Driverís license and be insurable under the agencyís automobile policy.
  • Maintain current Level One Clearance Card.
  • Maintain current CPR, First, Aid, Article IX.
  • Must successfully clear a criminal background check and a Child Protective Services/Department of Children, Youth and their Families central registry check. All newly hired employees are subject to the E-Verify Employment Eligibility Verification Program.

Physical requirements:

The position provides direct support to members with disabilities. The position requires the following physical requirements:

  • Must be able to walk, run, climb, stoop, kneel, sit, stand, reach, stretch, bend, squat, and other physical activities.
  • Must be able to operate a computer, wheelchair brake, vehicle lifts, etc.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend stairs.
  • Must be able to communicate with individuals with disabilities.
  • Must be able to distinguish smells such as gas and other noxious fumes.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • May work in outdoor weather work conditions.
  • Must be able to wear PPE, such as a face masks and disposable gloves, to provide a physical barrier to protect you and others as needed.

Psychological Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain calm, non-defensive with a supportive attitude during stressful, potential crisis, and crisis situations.
  • Must be able to work in an extremely stressful environment where there are considerable mental and emotional demands. Must be able to manage high volumes and unpredictability of work.
  • Must be able to remain flexible and reprioritize according to the changing demands of the day.
  • Must be able to manage stress in a fast-paced, unpredictable, intense setting.
  • Must be able to adapt to diverse cultural environments and communicate in a culturally inclusive manner.
  • Must be able to represent EBF in a professional manner in all situations.
